Sessions

Is it mat Pilates?

Most sessions are mat Pilates, and we bring the mats. Our instructors are also trained on the Reformer, Tower, Cadillac, Chair and Barrel.

Do we need any equipment?

You don't need any equipment. We bring a mat for each person, and you're welcome to use your own.

How much space do we need?

Most living rooms and amenity rooms have room for a mat for each person, and so does a boardroom once the table is moved aside.

What should I wear?

Wear clothes you can move in comfortably, and train in bare feet or grip socks.

I've never done Pilates. Where do I start?

You can join your building's or your company's class as a beginner, because the instructor gives each person a version of every exercise that suits their level. If you'd rather learn the basics on your own first, a few private sessions at home are a good way to begin.

I have an injury. Can I still take part?

Most people with injuries can take part. Tell us about the injury when you enquire, and mention it to the instructor before the session. Juhi has years of experience working with injuries and will adapt the exercises for you. A 2015 Cochrane review found low to moderate quality evidence that Pilates reduces pain and disability from low back pain more than minimal intervention. If you're under medical care, follow your doctor's or physiotherapist's advice first.

I'm pregnant or recently postpartum. Can I take part?

Please get in touch before booking. Juhi is trained in prenatal and postnatal Pilates and will usually recommend private sessions at home. Canada's guideline for physical activity in pregnancy recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week for women without a medical reason to avoid exercise.

How long are sessions?

Private sessions are 55 minutes, and group classes are 45 minutes.

How many people can take part?

Semi-private sessions are for 2 to 3 people, and small group classes are for 4 to 8, so the instructor can see and correct everyone. For a larger group, we can run two classes back to back.

Where

Where do you teach?

We teach in homes, residential buildings, offices and hotels across Toronto, most often in Yorkville, Rosedale, Forest Hill, Summerhill, Casa Loma, The Annex, Midtown and Downtown. We also travel elsewhere in the GTA by arrangement.

Our building has Reformers. Can you use them?

We can teach classes and private sessions on the building's Reformers, on the mat, or a mix of both. Let us know what equipment the gym has when you enquire.

Booking

Are your instructors certified and insured?

Every 287 Pilates instructor is certified and insured.

Is there a minimum commitment?

Every booking has a minimum commitment. Private sessions are booked as a series, and group classes as a term of weekly classes or a set of dates. We'll confirm the minimum and the rate in writing before the first session.

How much does it cost?

The rate depends on how many people take part and how often the sessions run. Tell us what you have in mind, and we'll send you a rate.

How do I book?

Send an enquiry from any page of this site. We usually reply the same day.

What's the cancellation policy?

Sessions must be moved or cancelled at least 24 hours before they start.
